Luke Nolen may be quietly spoken but that belies his competitive nature which is highlighted by being a two-time Scobie Breasley Medal winner.  Beginning his career in Dalby, Queensland, Nolen first rose to prominence winning the 2007 Cox Plate on El Segundo.  His fortunes changed in 2008 as he spent much of that year recovering from a severe race fall at Doomben in Brisbane.
Fully recovered, Nolen moved to Melbourne in 2009 and began riding for trainer and fellow Queenslander Peter Moody; more by accident than design as Moody initially thought he was booking Luke’s brother Shaun.
That association produced a significant part of the famous Black Caviar story with Nolen partnering the famous mare to 22 of her 25 victories, including the dramatic 2012 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in the UK.  Nolen’s dominance on the winners' list was rewarded with three consecutive Melbourne jockeys' premierships from 2009/10 to 2011/12.
