The Championships Race Highlights

No Group race wins

After attending Scots College, David learnt his craft working with Randwick trainers Neville Begg, Les Bridge and Graeme Rogerson.  He won the Kembla Grange trainers’ premiership at age 21 in 1989 under his original name of David Hayes, later changing his surname to his mother’s maiden name to avoid confusion.  Vandyke is also a skilled horse-breaker and he worked at Shadai Farm in Japan in the early 1990s in this role.  Upon his return to Australia, David helped his friend Tim Martin establish his stable at Rosehill before working with Chris Waller for five years.  He took out a trainer’s licence again in February 2010.
