Gai is ‘Racing’s First Lady’.  She has been a trailblazer for women in racing since being granted her trainer’s licence in 1992, after a long apprenticeship with legendary father Tommy Smith.  Took over Tulloch Lodge from her father in 1994 and has since trained more than 100 Group One winners and won seven Sydney trainers’ titles.  The young Gai Smith worked as a model and actor, including in Australian drama The Young Doctors.  She won her first Melbourne Cup with Fiorente last year and is at the peak of her powers.
